How We Work
When you appoint us to carry out a damp survey we will go through a number of steps to ensure that we have correctly identified the source of the damp and understand how to deal with it. This will start with a visual inspection of the property, to establish whether there are any obvious causes. We look at down pipes and roof guttering as well as flashing and pointing issues. It is also essential for us to understand the age and condition of the property to make an assessment. We also research the local area to determine whether there has been any flooding or environmental issues.
We make use of state-of-the-art equipment to test for damp. Electrical moisture meters allow us to measure the resistance between two metal pins interested into the wall – if moisture is present, the resistance will be lower than if the material is dry. We can also use a salt test to ascertain whether the damp is a result of fresh water or rainwater.
We have come across damp issues in properties all across the South East. The most likely reason for damp is that a leak has been able to penetrate through brickwork, but there are all sorts of causes of for these leaks that we often see including:
- Plumbing leaks
- Cracks, damage or faulty joints
- Blocked drains
- Broken gutters or downpipes
- Damaged or broken roof tiles
Damp can also be as a result of flooding and other water damage. Once we have detected the source of the damp we will be able to deal with it. We can provide everything from water extraction and drying equipment hire to sanitising and deodorising the affected parts of the property.
