Damp in a property is usually a symptom of internal or external issues affecting the property. If these issues are not accurately identified, thousands of pounds can be spent carrying out remedial work which does not solve the problem.
At CPL we have no vested interest in the remedial work and instead focus our attention and experience on identifying the root cause of the problem and providing you with the most cost-effective solutions.
Our experience with the insurance industry also allows us to identify which incident and moisture damage would be covered by your insurance policy. We could provide you with reports that can be presented to your insurance company and if required could meet the insurance representative on site.
Possible causes of damp.
- Structural problems
- Maintenance issues
- Inherent issues relating to the age of the property due to the construction methods and material available at the time
- Issues relating to the topography of the land where the property was built. We also offer flood risk assessment reports
- External flooding
- Ventilation issues
- Escape of water
- Routine of habitation
A burst pipe or water leak is never welcome and when it is hidden this can become a real challenge. Traditionally, destructive work was the only way to find a leak, often resulting in unnecessary damage before the leak is found. Replacement flooring or decoration costs are exorbitant compared to the actual cost of a simple repair.
Our engineers carry a full range of state of the art water leak detection equipment including moisture mapping, Thermal Imaging, Audio location and bore-scope cameras. They use a number of different tools including electronic listening devices, thermal imaging cameras and protimeters.
Testing the moisture
Part of the process of leak detection is to determine not only if there is moisture but also where it may be coming from. The content and type of moisture can indicate the source. We test for both Chlorides and Nitrates, the presence of either can show where the water is coming from. Chloride in the water shows the moisture is coming from the fresh water source to the house, Nitrates show the water is coming up form the ground; rising damp. Where there are no salts present at all the likely source is condensation or rain water ingression.
Mould remediation and drying out
Once the problem has been identified and resolved the affected areas may need sanitising and drying out before reinstatement work can begin. At CPL we have experience and the most advanced drying equipment for hire and effective sanitising systems to ensure the quickest turn around.
