A customer's rental property was suffering from an extensive mould problem in the hall, bedroom, bathroom and in the lounge, behind their TV. The tenant even had to move their mattress into another room to sleep, as the mould was so widespread in their bedroom.
We attended the property to carry out an assessment of the mould situation and conducted a risk assessment. Given the health hazards of mould and the extent of mould in this case, we had to ensure it was dealt with quickly and efficiently.
Using the latest moisture reading equipment, we were able to determine that the readings of the external walls indicated they were at more risk of condensation. It was ascertained that the cause of these cases of mould is due to presence of condensation and a distinct lack of ventilation. There was a large presence of mould around the front door and windows, where the air was much colder.
Our Mould & Damp Experts were able to determine the cause of the problem & due to the extent of the mould, it required. urgent removal. Firstly, the mould was cleaned away then the areas were decontaminated and sealed to prevent any further regrowth. Following the removal and treatment of the mould, we redecorated the affected rooms with a mould resistant paint, so the property was safe to inhabit again. To prevent a recurrence of the mould, we also recommended various prevention measures. The most immediate and cost-effective way to reduce the risk of condensation is to improve ventilation in the property and to obtain the tenant and/or owner's cooperation to carry out the following recommended prevention measures:
